Experience Sunriver

The grounds of Sunriver, Oregon carry a storied history. In 1942, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers constructed Camp Abbot — a vast military training facility carved from the high desert forest of the Deschutes River valley. Thousands of combat engineers trained here, building bridges under fire and solving impossible terrain problems. The camp was named for General Henry Larcom Abbot, a legendary Army surveyor who mapped the American West.

Camp Abbot was decommissioned in 1944. What remained became Sunriver — one of Oregon's most beautiful resort communities. The Abbot name endures in the conference room where MutantCon will be held. It's a fitting stage: a place where builders, engineers of imagination, and explorers of invented worlds come together.

MutantCon honors that spirit of construction and creativity. The Deschutes runs wild beside us. The Cascades loom above. And on Halloween 2026, the Abbot Room fills with people who build worlds the rest of us get to live in for a few hours.

Why MutantCon

MutantCon was born from a simple truth: some people build worlds that outlast them. There was a man who spent years constructing an entire RPG universe — not for publication, not for fame, but for the people around his table. He was a published creator, a dedicated GM, and an architect of joy. When he passed, he left behind not just a world, but a way of showing up for your game group with everything you had.

The games we run at MutantCon are Mutants — evolved, hybridized, transformed beyond their origins by creative superpowers. The people who run them are the inheritors of that spirit. This event is our tribute to him, and to everyone who has ever cared enough to make something their own.
